WordPress Site Context – TimesRUs (TRU) AssignmentECT 424 / IS 324 Assignment One: WordPress Site Context

Company Overview
TRU will act as an imagined multi-store retail company. This fictitious company is being created for use throughout this course as a basis by which many students will be critiquing enterprise IT,
networking, and systems choices.

Purpose
The goal of this wordpress blog site is to provide a means to collaborate and operate in alignment across the enterprise wide TRU company. By nature of being a distributed company with multiple brick-and-mortar locations, TRU requires a centralized platform through which employees can asynchronously discuss what’s new, what’s working, and how we do what we do. The site should be an example of Enterprise 2.0 style open, agile communication and knowledge
sharing that supersedes email or an antiquated intranet site.

Community
The community that will most benefit from this website is internal stakeholders of TRU. The blog should primarily cater to store managers, regional managers, operations teams, internal IT support, and corporate level leaders. Limiting stakeholders to only internal parties will keep the content need-to-know.

Value
As mentioned above, the content shared on this website must be valuable enough that users will want to regularly visit the blog. Sharing operational updates, technology directions, best practices from other regions, and allowing open discussion will create an environment where readers want to return to the site. Ideally this blog will become the go-to resource for internal stakeholders to improve how TRU operates and keep everyone in the loop.

Authorship
Blog posts will be published under the role of the author (manager, IT, leadership, etc.) rather than an individual. This will allow for enterprise level blogging to take place.

Types of Content
Examples of blog posts could include operational updates, technology announcements, project status, best practices, and How-To style guides for troubleshooting common issues. Posts can be professional, but should not be overly formal.

Interaction
Users will be allowed to comment on posts. This will allow for two-way conversation to take place. Employees will be able to ask management questions, leave feedback on operational changes, submit IT problems, or clarify procedures with regional leadership.

Examples

  1. A store manager reads a post on how a specific task is completed. After the post is finished,
the manager has questions on how this process will affect their store. Instead of sending an email
to leadership, the manager comments on the blog post.
  2. Internal IT writes a post on upcoming scheduled downtime. As employees read the post, they
    can comment with questions.
  3. Regional managers want to learn what common problems their stores are experiencing. They
can review blog posts to see what’s being discussed.
    Timeline
Feel free to post within the time frame of the assignment. However, since this site is an enterprise
style blog meant to live past this course, please keep future vision in mind. How will your blog
help TimesRUs function as a more collaborative and business focused organization?
